5 MINUTE GUIDE
How to compare hairstyles for your face shape
Treat face shape as a starting point. Compare where a hairstyle adds width, height or framing, then include hair texture, density and maintenance before choosing a direction.
01
Observe proportions without forcing a label
Look at relative face length, forehead and jaw width, and the shape of the jawline. Many faces sit between common categories, so one label should not decide the haircut.
02
Choose the visual change you want to test
Top volume can add height. Side volume can add width. A fringe changes how much forehead is visible, while layers can soften or emphasize the jaw area.
03
Include texture and density
The same outline behaves differently on straight, wavy, curly or coily hair. Density, growth pattern and shrinkage also affect what a stylist can reproduce.
04
Use previews as comparisons, not verdicts
Preview several real templates on the same photo and compare the structures you care about. HairWhatIf does not detect your face shape or declare one haircut objectively best.
05
Confirm the plan in person
A stylist can assess current length, treatment history and maintenance needs that a photo cannot measure. Bring your preferred preview as a discussion aid.
